Hi , My name is Doug Clarke, I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s and I have very old school principles, basicly my handshake is a contract and I have never broken a contract in my life.

We are a very unique company, no other transport company even comes close to our principles and structure with an understanding attitude with our customers.

I’m the Owner, Director, Manager, Driver, Admin, Website Builder and Web Developer, you might say i’m very hands on and this is my journey.

Throughout my life I have had many businesses and ventures but this one is very special to me.

This journey started in 2004 when in Adelaide I had a devastating foot injury with my right heel being shattered into 12 pieces, after many operations I was told that I wont ever be the same as I was previously and I should consider an office job because I wouldnt be able to continue being active in my concreting business, eventually I did close down COST-RITE CONCRETE, shortly after I was put onto a disability pension which wasn’t quite the pay I was used to, it was sugested that I should reskill myself into an office job, which wasnt a viable option for me as I cannot tolerate working indoors, even more so in an office….i’m an outdoor sort of person.

In 2006 I started selling a few antique items at our local market (Brickwork’s Markets) at Mile End, Adelaide, this was great fun and I got to meet many great people….my stall grew and grew to a massive 200 m2 inside the kiln area, this was a lockable area so I didn’t have to pull everything down every week.

In 2008 Woolworth’s had proposed a 80 million dollar offer for the site to build a shopping center, so all us poor old stallholders had to go, this is when I took on a local shop and DOUG’S ANTIQUES was born, I took myself off of the dissability pension and flew by the seat of my pants!!!

I done this business for a few years  but it was always a problem with interstate buyers which was a large part of our monthly sales and soon found out its hard to find a good honest transport company , actually I never did find one that I was happy with so I bit the bullet and bought our first truck in 2011 and started doing interstate runs to deliver our goods and for a few of the other dealers we knew….this took off very quickly with advertising on eBay and gumtree and within 3 years it had turned into a business that I thought would never be possible.

Over the years many people ask me when will I expand the business into more trucks and workers and I have always deliberatly not done so due to wanting to stay a small and personal business and as such my clients are more friends than customers…we have kept this small personal style business structure as a core ingredient to who we are and what we do.

Late in 2022 I sold up everything in Adelaide SA and moved up to Townsville Qld and in doing so increased our service area to deliver door to door from Cairns to Melbourne and Adelaide with all cities and towns on route.

We have always been the Company that will look after your furniture and collectables and we still are that same Company, we have pride in what we do, and its not a job to me….. its a way of life, I have been given the opportunity to meet plenty of great people over the last decade and we continue to strive to be the best in the industry, providing a great service with excellent communication and try very hard to be ON TIME EVERY TIME.

I don’t know any other transport company that does this route regularly door to door on a programed schedule.

We are now looking forward to another great decade of meeting great friends and providing the best service that this industry has ever seen.
